Space-based optical networks is a research domain investigating the design, implementation, and operation of communication networks utilizing optical technologies, primarily laser-based free-space optics, to enable high-throughput data transmission (> 100 Gbps) between satellites in various orbital planes and between space and ground assets, aiming to establish a high-capacity space transport layer seamlessly integrated with terrestrial communication infrastructure.
